Yeah... uh... China doesn’t use British plugs. This map is kind of crap. They use a combination of American-style, those shitty round Euro things, and the diagonal in type I.

Also, UK plug best plug. Followed by American. Fuck Euro-style plugs so hard.

The map maker is confusing Hong Kong with China, which does use BS1363 as the standard.

And the standard in China is actually the Australian standard.

What is the issue with Euro plugs? Are they that weird? (Asking out of curiosity)

Kinja'd!!!2

Mostly just the fact that they’ve always seemed to have a much looser fit than the other styles, especially if you use the old ungrounded type in the new circular sockets.

Brazil mostly uses a mix of the type A and C, which works with both US and Euro plugs. However, I also see some J, together with just A or C plugs from time to time. My single question is why the bloody hell the world can’t decide on a universal plug.

Actually, you’re right, as a European I agree with that, though I didn’t think of it.

Imagine how much more productive Europe could be if people didn’t spend half of their time either plugging their charger back in or double-checking that it hasn’t fallen out.

This map has Issues.

For a start, the Italians use Type L although you can squeeze a two pin plug into a Type L socket.

There are different types in the rest of mainland Europe. I took a French spec adaptor (round sides) to Sweden (flat sided sockets) and found a that a round plug does NOT go into a non-round hole. The opposite is however fine.

I then spent some time Googling the matter and for a short time considered myself an expert on the matter of Schoko plugs, Europlugs and the like.

What do you like about the UK plug? It looks to be so large. I’ve used most of the others and still prefer the US. Especially with how small you can get a two prong plug to be.

I’ve fallen victim to that so many times, but I still wish every socket had those switches. I just like buttons.

Also, isn’t it sort of weird that they country that produced Lucas Electrics is the same country that has the most over-engineered and safest electrical sockets? Like, enough people had the sense to design that and make it the standard, but no one in the automotive industry ever thought to hire any of them.

News to me, and I’ve had occasion to use electrical devices all over the place.

It’s the American ones you need to worry about. No fuse, loose pins which never make a tight fit and fall out if you look at them. Fortunately the Americans use a rather lower flow of electrons than most of the world and you’re maybe slightly less likely to be electrocuted. Emphasis on “slightly”.

It’s definitely a bit obnoxiously large, but I like how stable it is in the socket, but less futzy to insert or remove than US-style plug. Plus, I like how much thought went in to sealing the outlet when not in use and making sure that the ground makes contact before the others.

Kinja'd!!! Honeybunchesofgoats > Cé hé sin

I think it really depends on what you’re using and whether they’re the type with the larger neutral pin or the symmetrical type. Electronics and adapters almost always use the symmetrical type for more versatility.

I’ll give you though that the outlets themselves seem to wear out fairly often which makes the plugs loose. No idea why that is.

There was actually a push to standardize plugs early on. But a world war started and killed the momentum and when everything settled out the existing mishmash of plugs was already widespread in their area and nobody wanted to change because what they had worked for their area. Of all the plugs, type A/B is great for the compactness, but you can still touch the prongs with it partially inserted. C/E/F is excellent for safety. Everything else falls behind in my opinion. The UK’s plug is based on the fact that they have 32A/220V loop circuits and require a fuse in the plug because of it. In the US, circuits like that are for electric dryers, not standard electronics. Basically distributed protection vs centralized.

Because it’s far too late to change most or all of the world to something else. For the same reason different voltages and frequencies exist.

The current leaders are now: Cayman Islands, Bahamas, and Monaco (in that order).

Having moved to Botswana recently , I can corroborate this. I will note that your map is a little bit wrong, however, as Botswana uses the M-type plug like South Africa, not the J-type, which is super frustrating, since M adapters can be difficult to track down.

This map is wrong. Type L is mostly found in Italy and random places in Africa with heavy Italian influence (also Chile, from a quick search). Turkmenistan uses C, E, & F.

They are large because they have safety features built in, contain a fuse and so you can adequately grip them.

Some people just want to see the world burn.

I hated that OS and it makes sense that they gave up on it. Their only chance would have been to give it away like Google did with Android, but Microsoft couldn’t see that having a platform that they can sell software to run on was more important than licensing fees.

You can either go all in-house like Apple (which Microsoft isn’t hip enough to do) or you have to distribute the OS for free like Google and make it up on app store software.

The “safety” argument of any one plug over another is hocus. You’ve got to be pretty friggen determined to touch both prongs for it to happen no matter what kind you use.

I really love my 640, and I don’t need that many apps. My main issue with it is the obvious lack of support and the fact that it’s starting to crash a lot. But it was a really cheap phone 2 years a ago, and it clearly overdelivered compared to that price. But I’m not sure my next phone will be Windows, which is sad because I love it.
